Product Concept & Requirements Development

We turn an idea into an engineering brief that a hardware team can actually build from.

Overview

Most product projects fail early, not late. The idea is clear in someone’s head, but nobody has written down what the device must do, what it must not do, what it costs to build and which decisions are still open. Engineering then proceeds on assumptions, and those assumptions surface as rework three months later.

This phase produces a written concept: target users and use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, a proposed system architecture, the main technical risks, an indicative bill of materials and a development schedule with decision gates.

We keep it deliberately short. A concept document that nobody reads is worse than a one-page brief that the whole team agrees on. For most products this phase takes one to two weeks, and it is the cheapest place to change direction.

Capabilities

What this covers

01

Use cases and requirements

A written definition of what the product does, for whom, under which conditions, and what it explicitly will not do.

02

System architecture options

Two or three realistic architectures with the trade-offs stated — cost, power, certification burden and schedule.

03

Cost and BOM estimate

Indicative bill of materials and manufacturing cost at target volume, so the business case can be tested early.

04

Risk register and roadmap

The technical risks that could sink the project, ranked, with a phase plan and decision points.
