Mold Design
Tooling designed from production CAD, reviewed for manufacturability before steel is cut.
Overview
A mold is a one-time purchase that determines the quality of every part made from it. Design decisions taken in the tooling phase — parting line position, gate location, cooling layout, ejection strategy — are expensive to change afterwards and visible on every finished unit.
We design molds from the production CAD model, not from a prototype file. That means checking draft angles, wall thickness transitions, undercuts, shut-offs and the ejection marks that will appear on visible surfaces.
Before release, the tool design is reviewed with the molder against the actual machine and material: shot size, clamp force, cooling time and cycle estimate. The output is a tool drawing set and a trial plan with the dimensions that will be measured on the first shots.
Capabilities
What this covers
Parting line and gate strategy
Parting lines placed where they are least visible, with gate location chosen to control weld lines and sink.
Cooling and cycle time
Cooling layout designed for uniform shrinkage and a realistic cycle estimate, not a theoretical optimum.
DFM review
Draft, thickness, undercuts, shut-offs and ejection reviewed before the tool drawing is released.
Trial and measurement plan
First-article dimensions, appearance criteria and a documented approval step before production.
